Midnite Snake – “Bigfoot ‘69″

Midnite Snake is a trio from Pittsburgh in the line of “Acid Music.” Psyche. To my ears, theres something sexual about this evil, heavy, trippy dirty crap. The name is Midnite Snake, an easy reference to a late night booty call. If you cannot pick up on that, then download six and a half minutes of their jam “Bigfoot ‘69″ here for free:

Apache – “Crystal Clear” (play/download)

A modern day New York Dolls/Ramones rock n’ roll exclusively about partying. Texas meets Bay Area’s Apache = drugs, chicks, rock n’ roll. Paradoxically, their rock bar hits are upbeat and refreshing at a time when some deem drugs/sex/rock n’ roll as… cliche??

Animosity – “The Black Page”

SF’s Animosity, in hindsight, had a very successful existence in the music industry over the last decade as a Deathcore band. When the album Empires came out on Black Market in 2005, I WOULD NOT listen to this stuff. But now think about it, these kids were touring with Origin and Malevolent Creation by the time they were 19. And NOW, they don’t even exist. So, I’ll be damned if I don’t give some props….

Neurosis – “Burn” (play/download)

Neurosis’ The Eye of Every Storm, showed a combination of folk, metal, ambience and naturalism in one vast experimental record. A band that came from a very American hardcore beginning, its astonishing what musical exploration Neurosis has achieved over the course of a few decades, all with some obscurity. Whether you’re a “heady” music listener or a knucklehead thrasher.
